School Hall
Hardwood Floor Restoration

NSB Flooring recently had the pleasure of completing a sanding and sealing job at St Bede’s Primary School in Kimberworth, Rotherham.

The job was a fantastic success, and we are proud to have contributed to creating a more comfortable, attractive, and safe learning environment for the students and staff of the school.

The school hall’s English teak parquet floor had become worn and damaged over time, as is typical of floors that receive a lot of foot traffic. Our team of skilled professionals used specialised equipment and techniques to sand the floor’s surface, removing any scratches, dents, and other imperfections that had accumulated over time.

Once the sanding was complete, we applied a Berger Siedle Greenstar 2-Pack lacquer to the floor’s surface, supplied by Dave at Grand Parkett. This high-quality sealant helped protect the floor from future wear and tear while also enhancing the natural colour and grain of the hardwood, giving it a more polished appearance. The lacquer we used is known for its durability and longevity, ensuring that the school hall floor will remain looking beautiful and new for years to come.

Our team worked hard to complete the job during the half-term school holiday period, ensuring that the students and staff would not be disrupted during the school term. We take great pride in our work and always strive to deliver the best possible results for our clients. We are delighted that the staff and students at St Bede’s Primary School can now enjoy a safe and attractive school hall, thanks to the work of NSB Flooring.

What is sanding and sealing a hardwood floor?

Sanding and sealing a hardwood floor is a process of refinishing the surface of a hardwood floor.

Over time, hardwood floors can become worn or damaged, and sanding and sealing can help restore the floor’s natural beauty.

The process usually starts with sanding the hardwood floor using a floor sander to remove the top layer of the floor’s surface. This helps to remove scratches, dents, and other imperfections that may have occurred over time. Once the floor has been sanded, it is important to remove all the dust and debris that was created during the sanding process.

After the floor is cleaned, a sealant or finish is applied to the surface. The sealant helps protect the floor from future wear and tear while giving it a glossy or matte finish, depending on the type of sealant used. The sealant also enhances the natural colour and grain of the hardwood, giving it a more polished appearance.

Sanding and sealing a hardwood floor is a complex and time-consuming process that requires specialised equipment and skills. It is often best to hire a professional to ensure that the job is done properly and to achieve the best possible results.

The benefits of hardwood floor sanding & sealing for schools

Sanding and sealing a hardwood floor can be a useful process for schools for a variety of reasons:

  1. Restoring the appearance of the floors: Schools receive a lot of foot traffic, and over time, their hardwood floors can become scratched, scuffed, and discoloured. Sanding and sealing the floors can help restore their natural appearance and make them look new again.
  2. Improving safety: Hardwood floors that have become worn or damaged can pose a safety hazard to students and staff. Sanding and sealing the floors can eliminate splinters and uneven surfaces, which can reduce the risk of accidents.
  3. Enhancing hygiene: Hardwood floors can be difficult to clean thoroughly, and over time, dirt and bacteria can accumulate in the cracks and crevices. Sanding and sealing the floors can help eliminate these areas and create a smooth, even surface that is easier to clean and maintain.
  4. Preserving the floors: Sanding and sealing can help extend the life of the hardwood floors in schools by protecting them from wear and tear. This can help schools save money in the long run by avoiding the need for costly repairs or replacements.

Overall, sanding and sealing hardwood floors can help schools create a more comfortable, attractive, and safe learning environment for their students and staff.
